In 2023 I decided to go all in on YouTube to grow the business.
I’d already been on YouTube for years and had never really seen the results that I knew we could get.
But after almost 2 years tens of thousands of dollars of literal full time attention, courses, coaches, programs, software, training, analytics, consultants and freelancers.
I had absolutely nothing to show for it.
If anything, our views had gone down.
A little sidenote here: subscribers on a YouTube channel mean very little.
To the point that most YouTubers don’t even measure it or ask for subs any more.
Subscribers are like passengers on a bus who don’t pay.
It’s all well and good showing a channel with 10,000 subscribers or whatever.
But that doesn’t increase the number of views you get or even how far your video spreads.
The number that most YouTubers chase is “views”. Basically, views per video.
And mine had been plummeting.
I was literally on the verge of quitting.
Packing it all in.
My friend Marc asked me “are you at least having fun?”
And I admitted that no, I wasn’t.
The videos were hard work, took lots of time and at the end of it all, I wasn’t really proud of the work.
I wasn’t having fun.
So he made a very very simple suggestion.
“What video would you watch? What video would be fun for you to make?”
So I made that.
And I wish I could say that that turned my channel around and my business, but the truth is that it didn’t.
Not right away at least.
Because over time, that exact video was picked up by the audience all of a sudden.
And it got more and more views.
To date, it’s got over 180,000 views which is mental.
Now, not every video since has been a “banger” – BUT, it’s shown me that it is possible to get a lot of views and a LOT of leads from a video.
I know you’re close to quitting.
Don’t.
You’re close to quitting, but you’re even closer to success.
