There was a time when I really struggled to get clients and work.
Looking back, it was because I had too many things going on.
I had lots of services, lots of sales methods and lots of lead generation and traffic platforms.
I did webinars and ads, networking events, a Facebook group, instagram profile, YouTube, Twitter (back when it was twitter), LinkedIn, blogs, Facebook profile.
I did websites, email, social, video, ads, content.
I worked with coaches, kitchen designers, garden centers, food manufacturers, insurance agents.
And all those different combinations are exactly why I was failing over and over.
I had this one funnel that was, for lack of a better term, awful.
It looked beautiful.
Great design that cost me thousands. Great copy.
Lots of videos and webinars and lead magnets.
But it just didn’t convert.
Nothing.
No sales.
I became very very disillusioned with the whole thing, because I’d spent hundreds of hours learning from “experts” and spent tens of thousands of dollars on consultants and specialists to build the funnel.
And I had nothing to show for it.
Until one day, out of the blue, I had a new lead contact me asking for some help with their marketing.
Honestly, I was pretty down about the whole thing.
And I was so embarrassed with my current sales funnel that all I did, was tell them to book a call.
I sent them some questions that were purposefully off-putting i.e. “how much money do you deserve to make” and “our projects start from $25,000. Is that something you’re comfortable paying?” because I didn’t really want the work.
I had no faith in myself and didn’t believe that I could get the results.
I made it hard to get on a call with me with these questions.
And yet, they filled them out.
The answers were good.
They booked a call and the call went well.
I just asked them a lot of questions – zero selling.
Sure enough, we booked another call where I asked them more questions.
The state they were in, I was surprised they wanted to work with anyone at all.
I could easily get them results.
So I told them I could.
And I collected a deposit on Zoom. No proposal.
No funnel.
No sales pages.
And that’s now my entire sales process.
