You know you’re building a marketing funnel when…

When we’re building marketing funnels, we’re bombarded with millions of options for copy, content, conversion styles, plugins, tools. Ugh. The list goes on.

Do we really need all that stuff though? I KNOW what I want my marketing funnels to do. I know exactly what I want out of it.

If you’ve ever built a marketing funnel or any kind of marketing automation onto a website, you’re going to recognise at least one of these.

The theme and plugin combo that you bought for $500 and the marketing automation system that costs $200? It’s not always going to work flawlessly. I’ve mentioned before that you need to invest in anything twice.

First you need to buy it, then you invest the time to learn how to use it.

More and more businesses and your customers want marketing funnels. You need to be able to deliver them on top of website projects. The below is usually what happens (through no fault of our own I might add).

All the tools do 4 million things. But you need it to do 3

This new theme from does so much stuff! It has a page builder, launch funnel program, traffic advertising plugin, and more!

It makes tea, it’ll call your Mum when you haven’t spoken in ages, it even does your taxes.

That’s great and all, but I want my marketing tools to do 3 things.

-capture leads

-redirect users

-measure conversions

Is that so hard? All I want is a system that allows traffic to convert to leads and be added to my email list.

I then want those new leads to be re-directed to the right content.

Then I want the conversion numbers to be accurate…

I just want accurate numbers!

300 people visited this blog post. 28 got added to a list (20 from one optin and 8 from another).

Of those 28 people, 5 bought a splinter product.

1 bought the core product.


I have LITERALLY never seen a dashboard with numbers this acurate. Google says 100 conversions, MailChimp says 104 new subscribers and OptinMonster say 9 conversions. It drives me mental.

I know I can build dashboards, I know I can measure it manually. But it’s a ball ache and I just want them in one screen.

Don’t mention Cyph or Zoho to me. I know them and I use Cyfe. The reporting in one area isn’t the problem. It’s that each tool measures different results.


Expert #1, do this. Expert #2, do that. Expert #3, or do this.

Does all 3. Nothing works.

I’ve tried nothing and I’m all out of ideas

I’ve had the pleasure of meeting and working with some of the smartest digital marketing experts in the world.

I’ll sometimes follow the advice from a bunch of people and NONE of it works.

Having said that, I’ll often follow just one person OR my own dumb advice and stuff seems to work.

Needs more blog posts and published content. “That sounds like a lot of work”

It sounds like work because it is work.

Let me set the scene…You’re building

You’re building a marketing automation funnel for a customer. Something simple.

A few optins and a redirect that build a list from a blog post.

“Cool, all I need is the blog posts to go live and we’re good to go”.

Customer: “What blog posts…?”

Recognise that? Funnels LITERALLY only work with content in them. Yeah, it sounds like hard work, but it is.

However, the idea is that you can build the content and the funnel works FOREVER. It’s a pretty sweet investment.

Your first traffic user converts to a subscriber, receives the right email series and buys on automation. You want to kiss your laptop.

Ok. Sometimes the right stuff happens.

I rememebr when I made my first sale, on complete automation.

People visited my post. Signed up to a lead magnet. Then bought a product.

I was over the moon. I couldn’t believe that the whole system worked and was automated.

It meant that I could just focus on driving traffic and increasing conversion rates.
