90% of website and digital agencies haven’t got a fucking clue what they’re doing

Here’s the deal. You can either decide to be like everyone else, or you can decide to be brilliant.

Average or excellent.

If you want to sell funnels to clients, you need to choose one of these options.

We know who they are

Look around your local market. Look at your competition and ask yourself “don’t my customers deserve better?”

Honestly, we already know who the clowns in our market are. They’re the guys and gals selling websites for $500. Or the businesses that claim using a WordPress theme is cheating.

If you look at other businesses and think “I can do better than that”, then you SHOULD do better than that. The funny part is that it isn’t hard.

You know who the dodgy and poor quality service providers are out there. If you want to sell more funnels to clients and find more customers for your funnel business, you need to do everything you can to NOT be like them.

Be average or be excellent

It’s not about being average. I’ll admit, I wholly believe in “get it done, don’t get it perfect”. But that’s because AVERAGE funnel businesses aren’t willing to promote and publish anything.

Most funnel businesses, that want more clients aren’t willing to move themselves into the realm of excellence.

Either it sounds like too much hard work or they don’t want idea’s above their station.

We have a sociological and psychological problem, particularly in the UK and Europe, about thinking if we rise our heads up and stand out, we’ll suffer for it.

Either we feel we’ll make other people feel bad (they’ll be jealous of us and be unhappy with us), or that we’re not good enough to be “excellent”.

The first point, about making others feel bad, is usually enforced and encouraged by people who have never tried to be better or even different. If anyone ever tells you that they’re unhappy with you being successful, better or different, tell them to go fuck themselves.

Until they’ve worked hard at doing something different, they’ll have no idea what they’re talking about. If you feel that other people will be jealous, feel bad about themselves and send you negative reactions, you’re probably right. That will happen.

But I can PROMISE you, for every person that openly displays negative actions towards you because of you being better, ten people will be inspired and motivated by you.

Don’t think of it as afraid of attracting negative feedback. Think of it as finding positive action.

If you don’t think you can be a better funnel business. Ask yourself “why am I doing this?”. Why are you bothering with running your own funnel business if you’re not already great?

I can 100% promise you, if you’re reading this, you’re a great funnel builder. You’re a great email marketer or marketing automation consultant. I know that because you clearly want to be better. And people who want to do better are already doing something right.

Funnel businesses that want more clients can’t afford to be average. They need to excel at SOMETHING and show why they’re better.

If you want to get more clients and find more leads, for your marketing funnel business, you need to be excellent. Or you’ll always be average.

It’s not about what they charge

I want to make one thing crystal clear. Even though I firmly believe that most funnel businesses should be charging $15000+ for a project, what you charge has nothing to do with how good you are.

There seems to be a myth in the marketplace that your price is determined by how long you’ve been around, your experience, how old you are and how many clients you have already.

Charge what you need to make profit NOW. It’ll never come otherwise.

Having said that, if you sell $49 courses on marketing funnel conversion rate optimisation, and you make a profit, keep doing it.

If you sell $10 000 funnels and you’re NOT making a profit. Change something.

Being excellent and outshining your competition has nothing to do with what you charge. It’s about what people get for working with you.

There are books that have cost me £14.99 and they’ve changed my life. I’ve spend $10 000 on courses that haven’t been worth the paper they’re printed on.

Make every penny of your customer’s investment worth something. That’s what makes the difference. Not charging high for the sake of it.

“Be where your competition aren’t”

I hear this over and over again. The amount of people who tell me to go where my competition aren’t…

I also hear clients and funnel businesses talk about going where their competition aren’t.

“But Mike, I WOULD do that, but I don’t know where that is! I don’t know where these magic competition-less markets and places are…”

Yes. You do.

Grab a sheet of paper and write down answers to the following questions.

What 5 activities does everyone in my market hate doing?

What 3 products do my competition not want to create?

What 3 types of content does my market hate to produce?

If you’re anything like I used to be. The answers will be pretty clear.

What 5 activities does everyone in my market hate doing?

I know they hate blogging, speaking, creating videos, helping people for free and teaching.

What 3 products do my competition not want to create?

I know that digital, web and funnel businesses around me HATE to create courses, eBooks and high ticket items ($100 000+ products).

What 3 types of content does my market hate to produce?

Blog posts, lead magnets and video content.

So…what do you think you need to do? Where do you need to go to find customers where your competition aren’t?

Think of your own answers. Do some research and ASK your market and competition what they don’t like doing. They’ll happily tell you, because they think what they’re already doing should be kept a secret. They’ll tell you what they hate to do, which is basically a niche market plan.

Are you willing to work harder than average?

Final question. If you want more leads for your funnel business, are you willing to work harder than average?

More often than not, we don’t feel motivated because we don’t have purpose. If you’ve got a purpose and direction, you’re motivated to work harder than your average competition.

I teach, all the time, almost every day, that your business needs to have 3 purposes.

  1. Your personal, high lever purpose that drives your life and soul. What makes you happy? What ARE you? What is the income from the business supposed to help you do?
  2. What is the vision for your business? How many customers do you have? How many products at what price?
  3. What is the purpose of your business? How are you helping people? What can you help people do, achieve and become after working with you, or reading your blog content?

If you can answer these 3 questions, you’ll have the drive to work harder than you ever have before.

Does this blog post help my purpose? Does this product at this price point serve my mission? Does what I’m doing right now help find leads for my funnel business?

Think hard about your purpose and mission in life and for your business. If you need help, you can always use our FREE worksheet below on giving your funnel business a 12 week shakeup.

Wrap up

What do you think? Let me know in the comments below if you can see why most businesses are average. Most businesses fail BECAUSE they’re average. Not because they’re terrible or bad, but because they don’t want to try and be better.
