Once upon a time, my therapist dropped a bombshell on me.
There are three versions of you, she said.
Who you aspire to be, who you actually are, and who you project yourself to be for the world.
I envisioned myself as a successful entrepreneur, a creator, a deliverer of a product I’d lovingly crafted.
But let’s be honest, delivery isn’t my strongest suit.
I revel in selling and marketing products, that’s where my passion lies.
The realisation stung, like a slap of cold water, but it was necessary.
I had been performing a character, a version of me that I thought the world wanted to see.
But when I started embracing who I truly was, the love for sales and marketing, I felt happier.
It was like I had been holding my breath underwater, and now I could finally breathe.
You see, trying to conform to an image, a role, a facade, is like trying to swim against the current.
It’s draining and it gets you nowhere.
So I ask you this: Are you ready to stop pretending and start being more yourself?
